Love and a Beagle

So, I met a lady at PetCo who had a fluffy dog in tow and saw our beagle.  "Awww" she said, "I have one of those old girls at home".   Then she said,  "I'm not sure I want to do the Beagle thing again".  Which gave me paws....!  To which she responded to herself, "yeh, I'm gonna do it again".  Beagles are surely special.  They have their own way, and they are sooooo sweet.  I know there are other very sweet breeds out there too.  They all have so much love to give.

Errant Beagle

Like most beagles, ours watches for the door to be open so that he can take his trip around the neighborhood, sniffing at this and that and marking just about everything vertical.   Who knows what makes beagles tick.  If dogs are one species, they sure are varied.  The personalities are so different.  Just like human beings.  We come in all different shapes and sizes and personalities too.  Does every species?  Interesting to contemplate.

To Kennel or not to Kennel

We are considering putting our beagle into a kennel while we're away for 12 days.  I hope he is happy there.  I suppose he'll bay the whole time.  He is very attached to me, but we have to go.  Thought of having someone stay with him.  Anyone have an opinion?

Homemade dog food

Hi there - I just came across a great site about homemade dog food.  I was concerned about our older dogs and their kidneys when eating manufactured dog food.  So, in my research, I came across this site.  Take a look.  He has some really good recipes for your dog.

Why Do Dogs like Hibiscus Flowers?

Our dog loves hibiscus flowers.  Though he's 10, he'll jump up to grab them off the bush.  I know they are high in vitamin C, but what exactly would a dog find tasty about the flower.  Our little Silky mix even likes them.  They actually beg for them.  I can't imagine they are harmful, because they have been eating them for years.  If anyone knows about this, I hope they post something.

Our beagle - best bud

You probably have an endearing story about your pet that many of us could identify with.  We have a beagle who loves to run a figure 8 around the house, skidding through the kitchen as he goes.  His eyes are as wide as a dog who's seen a ghost and it seems as if the ghost is chasing him.  Since I have given him a cookie every time he does that (he's trained me very well), when he finishes his laps (usually 5 or 6), he sits below the cookie jar and keeps pointing up to the jar with his nose.  The little silky mix that we have is the cheerleader/referee and barks constantly when the race is on.  I'm not sure, but I think the run is a beagle trait.  Maybe a beagle owner, or breeder knows for sure.  Anyway, we are very amused every time he does it and clap and cheer him on.

Keep you posted.
